NADĚJE
Pobočka Písek
The missionary programme (since 1990) represents the fulfilment of the statutes of the NADĚJE, and it is the main basis of all its activities. This programme is based on the conviction that charitable help and social services must be complemented by spiritual assistance. Christian pastoral care and missionary service are an essential part of our services. The NADĚJE keeps in the places where it operates active relationships with local churches, both with the clergy and the laymen. The missionary programme substitutes curate service which is not introduced into Czech social services.
We do not consider mission to be imposing our ideas on people but spreading, declaring the joyful news of God´s love in Jesus Christ, of love to everyone. This declaration is connected with the effort to help people in need to satisfy their physical and material needs.
Thanks to both our donators and the ones from abroad we could – in refugee camps and in the first years of our activity also in Prague – distribute several thousands of Gospels, hundreds of New Testaments as well as the Holy Bibles and a lot of other Christian literature not just in Czech and Slovak languages, but in numerous other languages.
Since the beginnings of the activities of the NADĚJE there have been taking place divine worships. Every Sunday in the centre for the homeless there are gatherings of people who show interest in Gospel. Regular divine services take place in the Homes of peaceful seniority, and the clients are offered – in addition to those divine services – transportation to local churches. Old, handicapped and abandoned people are – if they wish – visited by priests of their denomination respectively.
Concerning the young, the missionary work in the centres for children and the youth is aimed at precautions against their social-pathological behaviour. Professional preachers as well as many of our collaborators are trying – during their everyday talks to their clients – listen to their questions and speak appropriately about God´s love to all people. Those who are interested in a deeper study of the Holy Scripture we offer so called biblical lessons.
In 2001 the NADĚJE published a unique Dictionary of Christian notions for deaf people in the form of a book and an accompanying VHS. The entries in the dictionary, which were mostly missing from the dictionaries published for the deaf so far help even these people grasp the message about Jesus Christ and the kingdom He offers.
Parts of the programme are:
- pastoral care for the clients according to their denomination;
- biblical lessons;
- preaching, often in an ecumenical form;
- offers to provide personal talks, listening to clients;
- escorting and transporting clients from their homes to the church for masses;
- cooperation with local churches;
- procuring Christian literature for clients.
